The existing ERL Refinery, with a nominal crude oil processing capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per year, planned an expansion to increase its production capacity by an additional 3 million tonnes per year.

The project involved transporting crude oil to the refinery through a Single Point Mooring (SPM) system located approximately 90 km from the refinery, connected by offshore and onshore pipelines, together with an intermediate pump station and an onshore tank farm required due to the limited pumping capacity of the oil tankers.

Tecnoconsult carried out the Basic Design of the SPM system for the offloading of crude oil and HSD products from tankers of different capacities (120,000 DWT and 80,000 DWT), through an integrated offshore/onshore pipeline system to the refinery.

The engineering activities included optimization of the offshore layout, pipeline route selection and definition, identification of the optimal SPM location, mechanical pipeline design, thermal expansion analyses, on-bottom stability assessments, and metocean studies.

Tecnoconsult also developed pipeline protection studies against dropped objects, third-party interference assessments, shore approach selection, preparation of the SPM functional specifications, Material Take-Off (MTO), and cost estimate activities.
