Flow Assurance

TECNOCONSULT has gained a good experience in the Flow Assurance analysis for mono and multiphase systems; with the major Oil/Engineering Companies.

The experienced systems are tipically:

  • Gas/Liquid pipelines (One Phase systems)
  • Onshore/Offshore (shallow water and deep water) multiphase systems (gathering from well/wellhead facilities, gas-condensate pipelines).

Our approach to design the gathering systems and/or transfer pipelines is supported by internationally recognized computer softwares (OLGA, PVTsim and PIPENET).

TECNOCONSULT Flow assurance team is composed by permanent employers with good experience, gained during several years of studies and projects carried out using up-to-date international codes and based on traditional approach as well as on recent limit state design criteria.

The flow assurance study is carried out through the following steps:

  • Fluid characterization
  • Steady State Analysis
  • Transient Analysis

The fluid characterization analysis is carried out to simulate fluid properties and experimental PVT data.

The Steady state hydraulic calculations are performed to verify the suitability of the pipelines for various transport capacity scenarios; in terms of pressure, temperature, fluid velocities and pressure drops, in order to verify that the selected pipelines sizes allow to operate respecting the constraints on the fluid velocities and EVR (Erosional Velocity Ratio).

The Transient analysis is performed for the following different approaches:

Liquid lines: to calculate if water hammer effects, caused by sudden valves closure and/or pump trips, are within the limits of the applicable code for accidental conditions.

Gas lines: to define operability limits as survival and packing times or blowdown scenarios.

Multiphase lines: to define the maximum slug size and duration for slug catcher sizing and preservation methodology in case of shutdown of the system.
